Product: Gluten Free Pantry Perfect Pie Crust Mix
Buy again: Probably not; would not recommend for a two crust pie because of how sticky the dough is. Also, dividing the mix in half (or fourths as the box says it makes 4 crusts) was a nuisance. Next time, I will buy gluten free flour and make the crust(s) from scratch using the betty crocker recipe and see how that turns out.
Recommend to friends: Maybe for those who have never made a crust from scratch before and prefer mixes, but will recommend they have extra gluten free flour on hand to help roll it out.
This single box supposedly makes 4 crusts. As a single person, I didn’t want to make up all four, and unsure what freezing a crust would do to the texture or longevity, I divided the box in half and made a single thick crust for my pumpkin pie.
This dough was extremely sticky and was difficult to roll out without extra gluten free flour to add to it or coat my fingers. The fact that it was sticky didn’t allow for a pretty design around the edges. A top crust (i.e. a two crust pie like cherry or apple) would have been impossible with this crust because of how sticky it was.
That being said, the crust tasted great! After it was baked, it was flaky and held together, similar to a pie crust made with (gluten containing) all purpose flour.
